Domestic Violence Counsellor

Responsibilities

Provide crisis intervention, education, short and long term domestic violence and gender based violence counselling and support programs to children/youth and women who are experiencing or have been impacted by family violence. The counsellor will also provide support in connecting parents to appropriate and available resources including but not limited to:
- Individual crisis and trauma counselling
- Developing, planning, and facilitating group sessions and workshops
- Risk assessment, case planning, and safety planning
- Advocacy for clients
- Create an inclusive and safe environment for clients
- Maintain confidentiality of clients and centre

Requirements

Degree in social services field with knowledge of family violence, or Applied Counselling Certificate and/or equivalent training and experience will be considered, Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) considered an asset. Two years or more experience in the domestic violence field considered an asset.
Additional qualifications for the position:
- Experience in providing counselling to children, youth, and women
- Good understanding of the complex nature of domestic violence
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong written/oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and able to work in a multidisciplinary team setting
- Good employment record
- Current clear criminal/vulnerable sector record check; child abuse registry check; adult abuse registry check
-Provide own vehicle and possess a valid driver's license
